Why Does a Piece of Plastic and a Chip Cost $1,200?

Because the dealership knows you think you have no choice. Here's what they don't want you to know.

Myth

Car keys use proprietary dealership technology that only they can program.

Truth

Car keys use industry-standard OEM transponder chips. The same chips available to any qualified automotive locksmith with the right equipment.

Myth

Aftermarket keys are lower quality and won't last as long.

Truth

We use OEM-grade blanks and chips — the same components the dealership uses. Our 3-year warranty covers parts and labour because we back what we sell.

Myth

You need to go to the dealership for European luxury brands like BMW, Mercedes, or Audi.

Truth

European keys are more complex, but Buzz has 22 years of experience programming them. Same encryption, same chip, without the showroom markup.

Myth

A replacement key from a locksmith won't work as well as the original.

Truth

A properly programmed replacement key is functionally identical to the original. Start, lock, unlock, boot release — all features work exactly the same.

Buzz programming a car key circuit board in his fully-equipped mobile van workshop

Meet Buzz

Blagoja "Buzz" has been cutting and programming car keys for over two decades. He's not a franchise. He's not a call centre. He's the guy who turns up, does the job, and makes sure it's done right.

" I've cut over 30,000 keys. I've seen every trick the dealerships pull. My job is simple: give you the same key, with better service, at a fair price. "

Car Key Replacement FAQ

Do I need to tow my car to a dealership to get a replacement key?
No. That's the whole point of what we do. Quick Car Keys is a mobile service. Buzz drives to wherever your car is parked. Your driveway, your office, a shopping centre car park. The key is cut and programmed right there. No tow truck. No dealer visit. No taking a day off work to sit in a waiting room.
I've lost all my keys. Can you still help?
Yes. This is one of the most common calls we get and it's not the disaster it feels like. When all keys are lost, we generate a new key from scratch using your car's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). We'll need proof of ownership, so your registration papers or a photo of them on your phone is fine. The process takes a bit longer than a standard replacement (usually 45–60 minutes) but you'll drive away with a fully programmed key.
How long does the process take?
Most jobs are done in 30 to 60 minutes. A straightforward transponder key for a common car is usually at the shorter end. An all-keys-lost job or a more complex European key might take closer to an hour. Either way, you're not waiting days or weeks like you would with a dealer.
